Guidelines framed for AHPE Oration

The Academy of Health Professions Educators (AHPE) recognizes those individuals
who have made exemplary contributions to health professions education in India. The AHPE has framed criteria for selection for the AHPE oration, This work was done by Dr Nirmala Rege and Dr Anshu. Dr Avinash Supe was selected for the AHPE Oration of 2023.

Selection of the orator will be done by 31st March of every year. The awardee will deliver the oration in the National Conference of Health Professions Education (NCHPE) of the same year, preferably in the morning session of the second day. The felicitation of the orator will be done by the President AHPE
with a plaque and a certificate.

Collaboration with National Academy of Medical Sciences

This year, AHPE collaborated with the National Academy of Medical Sciences. We have signed an MoU according to which from next year, the winner of the Dr KL Wig Oration. Award in the field of medical education awarded by NAMS will deliver their oration at the NCHPE.

Guidelines for AHPE partnership with other organizations

With the help of our Past President Dr Nirmala Rege, we have drafted guidelines for how other organizations can partner with AHPE for faculty development activities. Some of these guidelines are:

  • AHPE members will give academic inputs in organizing the faculty development programmes.
  • The organizers will award concession in the registration fees to AHPE members for participation
  • The organizers will waive registration fee, local hospitality and transport for the resource persons from AHPE
  • The faculty development activity should provide more visibility to AHPE during the conferences in order to increase the AHPE membership.

Awards for Educational Innovations

In the last EC meeting we have decided to initiate awards for educational innovations. We are also considering introducing travel grants for undergraduate students who wish to participate in NCHPE and present their viewpoints on the state of health professions education.

AHPE Special Interest Group on Faculty Development to conduct Survey

The special interest group on faculty development has initiated a needs assessment survey on Health Sciences Faculty Development Priorities for the Next Decade. This survey is being led by Dr Gaurang Baxi for AHPE SIG on Faculty Development
